"Success doesn't come to you, you go to it" - Marva Collins Standing still and expecting for things to somehow change for a better, won't happen. We must seek and welcome change into our lives. If we hope to change and improve our lifestyle, career or our health, we must take necessary steps and make required changes to do so. For example, we can't say that we want to improve our health, without any excercising and without adjusting our diet to eat healthier meals every day. Same way, we can't achieve success by sitting on our couch watching tv every day, hoping for success to find us. Instead, we must create a plan of action and follow our set plan, working hard and overcoming any difficulty and any challenge on our path, and never ever give up.

"It takes time to create excellence. If it could be done quickly, more people would do it" Many expect to achieve goals that we set almost immediately, and when patience threshold has been reached and exceeded, whatever it may be for each of us, most of the time we lose interest in whatever we were working towards and stop trying, which eventually leads to us giving up. What we don't realize is that it takes time to reach that what we hope to achieve. It takes patience, persistence and determination to keep on going even after we fail to reach our objective in terms of time that we've initially committed to. Have patience, as achievement of great things and objectives in life takes time and often a very long time.
"Just believe in yourself. Even if you don't, pretend that you do and, at some point, you will" = Venus Williams Just like the power of goal-setting and visualizations, the concept of self-assurance and belief in one's own abilities, helps our very busy mind to focus on what's important to us, to remind us that we are strong and are capable of achieving great things in life. Certain things and goals may seem way out of our reach initially, however, all it is is a way for our mind to protect us and to keep us safe, mitigating any potential risks that we may be subjecting ourselves to. So, our mind will tell us to wait, don't try, remain status quo when our gut is telling us that we can do whatever we think about accomplishing and, therefore, must try. At the end of the day, we decide what we can or cannot do. The question is, are we willing to try and challenge the status quo?
"If you don't like what's being said, change the conversation" - Don Draper, Mad Men We should be comfortable to change the course of any conversation if we do not like or agree with what is being said. We should be able to express our point of view and our concerns in a polite and professional manner as soon as we are able to do so. Other people may not be even aware that what is being said is not being received by everyone involved in the conversation, unless one notifies the group and provides recommendations and/or direction as an alternative, or asks to change the topic of the conversation. If we do not express our point off view and our concerns to others, we shouldn't expect for things to change
"Use what talent you possess: The woods would be very silent if no bird sand except those that sang the best" - Henry Van Dyke We all have our own unique sets of skills and talents, and yet, we often neglect them because we are busy trying to follow what other people are doing. In the mean time those unique skills of ours go unnoticed. What we don't realize is that other people may benefit from what we can bring to the table - our unique skills and strengths that nobody has except us. So, why not share that what we are great at with others? You never know how much of a positive impact we can make to the world around us unless we try to focus and do what we know and do better than anyone else, not to mention doing what we truly enjoy.
"Every one has two lives and the second starts when he realizes he just has one." - Confucius We often wait until some turning moment in our life, which makes us to think about our present and our future. During this thinking process many realize that there's so much more that we wanted to do and hoped to accomplish. As result, we choose to adjust our present and re-define our path for the future in order to accomplish what we truly desire. So, instead of waiting until such turning moment, why not begin changing our present today and begin creating new opportunities for achieving our wants and needs sooner rather than later?
"The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own. No apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins." - Bob Moawad Our life is our own responsibility, and we alone can choose the path that we with for our life to take. Sure, we may want to blame other people or specific situations for the moments when times are tough, or for our failures, however, that's not going to change the fact that we took the actions that we did or made the decisions that we did, which eventually led us to where we are. We can point our blame finger somewhere else all we want, but at the end of the day we must remember that our life is the product of our own doing, and only we are able to change it.
"You can't solve a problem on the same level it was created. You have to rise above it to the next level." - Albert Einstein Often, when we encounter a problem in our personal or professional lives, we tend to look for a solution where the problem or issue was discovered, instead of stepping outside of our immediate area of focus and look at each problem from a 'big picture' point of view. We tend to spend a long time searching for a solution asking 'inside the box' type of questions, when solution can only be found using global way of thinking, looking outside of the box. Solutions to many issues we uncover will remain undiscovered, with us simply patching the problem vs. actually solving it, unless we change our approach to problem solving. Don't look for a quick and easy solutions as they will not address the core issue that you may be dealing with at any given time. Look for the right solution using 'big picture' way of thinking, be patient, and ask right questions with long-term solution in mind.
"You will never reach your destination if you stop and throw stones at every dog that barks" - Winston Churchill Every day our attention and focus are already pulled in many different directions, which makes it very difficult to focus on one thing, one objective at a time. That is why if we hope to accomplish something that's important to us, we must focus on that one thing, ignoring all other distractions until our main goal and objective has been successfully accomplished. Because, if we stop and turn our attention to new distraction, we would never be able to move forward. It's like walking into a meeting and expecting to walk out solving all problems, issues and concerns. It's just not realistic. Instead, walking into a meeting and focusing all attention on one main core issue and/or objective, you should expect to make a significant progress or, even better, finding a solution with everyone's focus geared towards one thing, and not pulled in million different directions.
"You will come to know that what appears today to be a sacrifice will prove instead to be the greatest investment that you will ever make" - Gordon B. Hincley Reason why so many people give up on their goals and plans shortly after embarking on what could be an exciting and highly rewarding journey is the sacrifices that many must make in their personal and professional lives. These sacrifices could be: time with family and kids, hours of sleep, consistency and predictability in daily schedule, financial resources. We want and expect immediate results and gratification with least amount of effort. However, when we realize that there's so much more required to achieve our plans and goals, many tend to give up opting into leaving things where they are and not create any waves in their lives.
