Hey everyone,

This is time of the year when we create and often commit to new personal and professional goals for the upcoming year. For some it may be investing several minutes/hours per day or week towards personal development, for others it may be focusing on personal health and going to the gym and/or eating healthy. Regardless of what kind of commitment you have or will make, it is important to remember that during the year you will be faced with challenges and obstacles that you would need to overcome. It's not a question if you will run into obstacles, the question is how you are going to react and what you are going to do when you are faced with one. This is where most people may lose their determination and drive towards a specific goal or goals which were established earlier in the year or at any point during the year.

When you are faced with obstacles it is important to remember the big WHY you have made specific goals and commitments. Go back in time and re-create the exact moment when you were establishing goals and making those commitments, re-create the exact feeling that you were experiencing at that time and remind yourself of why you were feeling a certain way. This very important exercise should help you remind yourself of the big why and keep it fresh in your mind whenever you are faced with difficulties along the way. If you make a commitment, then you absolutely must follow through on that commitment, regardless of challenges and obstacles that you may encounter. Another very good way to remind yourself of your goals and commitment is by writing them down in your goals journal, and reviewing those goals daily. Make sure that you set realistic goals for yourself that you know you can achieve with hard work and strong dedication. I am fan of incremental goals, setting smaller benchmarks on the way towards the bigger goal. This way you can stay motivated at all times by meeting and establishing new incremental goals until you reach your ultimate goal.

I am committed to help as many people as I possibly can to become better leaders with focus on personal and professional development through the www.heartandmindofaleader.com blog, podcasts, and many other resources available on the website.
