Focusing on what's important to you in life every dayWhy do we constantly worry about things outside of our control? Have you ever asked yourself how much time you are wasting on things, situations, and people that do not contribute any value to you or what you are going after in life – your goals and dreams? If I had to take a guess, the answer is most likely ‘no’. Why? Because, that is many of us do, we worry about things that do not contribute any value or help us in any way all the time, we focus on situations and temporary problems, which are not even our problems. Then we spend hours, days, or weeks, thinking about these situations and how we were unable to do anything about them or help in any way, because, the situation and resolutionReal were simply outside of our control. It’s not that we ignore others when they come to us for help, we do try to help or guide other people towards a solution. However, when something does not go as planned or when the person we attempted to help chooses not to pursue the solution we had recommended, we continue to think and focus on the problem, even though it has nothing to do with us. We spend great amount of time thinking and focusing our energy on these things, which hurt us in the long run. We waste precious resource, which we will never get back – time. Time goes past us where we are spending our energy and resources on acquiring negativity, frustration, anger, and disappointment, because, things just don’t go as planned. Who cares if you missed your boat on purchasing some freshly caught crab? Here recently, I’ve decided to go to a local fish market which sells freshly caught fish, shrimp, crab, and other sea inhabitants. In order to purchase some fresh crab, you must be in the line to the fish market at 3:30-4am, if you actually want to get your hands on the catch of the day, more specifically crab, as they do sell out very quickly. So, instead of leaving my house at 3am, as I was supposed to, I left around 4:30am, just to make it to the market by 5am, keeping in mind that fish market opens at 5:30am. When I got there the ‘crab’ line was already long, as expected. But, I took a chance and still got in line. Fish market opened in 30 mins and line started to move. In very short period of time, 30 mins to be exact, and with a lot of anticipation, I finally crossed the line into the market and approached crab stand, just to find out that they had just sold out of crab. This is when I noticed a great example of people sharing their frustration, anger and deep disappointment with others, even though they knew that there’s nothing that can be done, unless of course they are willing to go out to the sea on their own in hopes of catching some crab. There were a lot of people standing in line behind me, same people who arrived after 5am when they knew that the time that they needed to be in line was 3:30-4am. So, the whole time they were complaining to the fishermen, I was thinking why everyone is upset even though it was their fault for showing up late to the party. It’s like keep swinging your punches after the fight has already ended. Nothing will change in this situation, so why worry about it, why spread your frustration to people around you, affecting their day in the negative way. All you have to do is let it go right away and move on with life, focusing on something that you can still have an impact on versus wasting your time on things or situations from the past. Going back to my story. While we were still in the line of complainers, I smiled at my son, he smiled back, and we proceeded to move forward, purchasing some awesome fresh fish, enjoying the moment and beautiful morning. Then, we drove back home with the catch of the day and smiles on our faces. Why am I sharing this story with you? Because, I want to help you see that there are so many beautiful and important things and people in our life for us to invest our time and energy with, versus focusing on things that are outside of our control, situations from the past, people from the past, and anything or anyone that is not adding value and positive energy into our lives. Cherish every moment with those that you love, and enjoy your life to the fullest extent possible every day.
