Leadership & Personal Development Blog SeriesHey everyone, As I was heading home from vacation, one thought came to my mind, and I asked myself why I haven’t discussed this with my listeners yet. So, I found some sticky notes in my backpack and started writing, until I used up almost all available sticky notes. What I was thinking and writing about was how important and critical hard work and persistence are to everyone’s’ success. Let me know what you think by sending me an email to: [email protected] The importance of really hard work and persistence to get you where you want to be I think many of us underestimate the importance of hard work and persistence when it comes to reaching your goals and objectives and get what you want. We say that we work hard, but are we? Or are we simply want to impress someone by saying things that aren’t necessarily true, but sound good. I think so. It takes everything you’ve got to keep pushing and driving to get to where you want to be. A lot of energy, and determination is required, especially when you face obstacles on your path. This is usually where most people give up on their goals, just because it is too difficult, or something is not going according to their plan. Things normally don’t go according to plan, and that is ok, that is part of life and struggle that we need to overcome before we reach something great, a place where you really want to be. Persistence – A way to get from point A to point B Persistence is that driving force, your fuel, that moves you forward. Persistence plus hard work is required to break through difficult and hard to reach objectives that initially may seem unreachable. But remember, nothing is unreachable, it really depends on how much do you really want it. How hard you are willing to work to reach your dream lifestyle? How many hours of your personal time are you willing to invest every single day, in order to continue moving a needle toward that one thing you are working towards? These are all very important questions to ask yourself BEFORE you embark on your journey. The truth is, if you are not willing to invest any available time that you have during the day, and in some cases night, regardless whether you are working a full time job or not while pursuing that one thing, then you will not get far. I wish that I can be very positive here and tell you that you will reach your dream if you just wait for it, but I can’t do that and I cannot and will not lie to you, or set false expectations. Yes, patience is very important, especially if you are expecting great things come to you right away, they won’t, you have to work for it and be persistent on getting there. Personal Example of Hard Work and Persistence I’ve personally faced many, many, struggles and difficulties in my life, both personal and professional. One example, attending high school when I could barely understand or speak English. Many people were laughing at me, making fun of my accent, I would be going to and registering for wrong classes to only find out later that I was in the wrong class and having to unregister. I translated every homework problem using electronic translator at night, while everyone was sleeping, then sleep for 3-4 hours and go back to school again. Despite all of these difficulties, I graduated high school with honors, completed all required credits, and was accepted to one of the best universities in the nation. What got me there, were a lot of hard work and insane persistence. Tools, Resources, Action Items When I was looking for jobs, I’ve completed so many interviews with various companies, that now I find interview process extremely interesting and enjoyable, unlike many other people. That is the reason why I created interview tips for beginners, available on www.heartandmindofaleader.com website, available to you after quick free registration. I created interview tips in addition to other personal development and leadership resources to help people interested in and fully invested in their development without having to spend countless hours conducting research. I am also a firm believer that reading or listening to books in your field of interest is a must. I am talking about reading and listening many books, and never stop reading and searching for new content, in order to continue learning and growing your knowledge base. Some people say that they have read 1-2 books on leadership, and that’s great. But, when they are asked what they have done with the information that they have learned, in response you receive silence or “nothing yet.” If information is not used to get you closer to your goal, then there is no value in it. Using what you learn is a key to success. Let’s be realistic about your accomplishments and focus on what you will do! Don’t create false reality for yourself or others. Focus on your accomplishments, your goals and plan of getting you to your dream career and lifestyle, and put in everything you’ve got until you get there. Don’t create excuses, anybody can do that, instead talk about what you have done and what you will do until your mission is fulfilled. Comments are closed.
