Leadership & Personal Development Blog SeriesI am going to venture out a little today and discuss one topic that I wanted to share with you for a long time now. This topic is what many people are afraid to explore, even though they constantly thinking and dreaming about it. I know I did, until I made a decision to overcome my fears and just go for it. What I am referring to is - the dream of owning your own business and doing what you love.
Many of us find ourselves in very challenging and difficult situations that sometimes seem impossible to get out of. Whether it is a lack of money, not being able to take vacations and spend time with your family, purchasing the car that you always wanted, or even going out and having a nice dinner with your wife or husband. When we find ourselves in these situations, what are we doing to address them in order to reach to what we really want in life? Some may say that, “I am working hard 60+ hours every week in order to bring money home,” or “I take every overtime opportunity that may be offered to me by my employer in order to increase my pay check by few dollars.” So, you probably thinking, how did I came up with all of these statements? Well, they all came from me and my own experiences, something that I did when I had very difficult time in providing for my family and putting food on our table. Everything that I am sharing with you came from my own experience at some point of my life, therefore, I know how you feel if you are going through similar challenges and asking yourself similar questions. What have I done to change my life and stop asking questions mentioned earlier? I changed my mindset, I changed how I think and see any challenges on my path, and changed how I respond to each and every challenge. Most importantly, I have made a decision to follow my passion and start my own business while working a full time job. My passion is leadership and personal development. Helping other people just like you and me to realize their full potential by sharing my knowledge and experiences, both personal and professional, is what encourages and fulfills my goal in life – helping and serving others through coaching, motivating, and mentoring. There are so many people all over the world who want to reach their highest potential in life, improve and expand their leadership skills, improve their own and their family’s lifestyle, or simply be happy with life. But they simply do not know the way or currently may not see a way to have access to information desired, in order to grow and develop personally and professionally. There are many reasons why some of us may not see a way to invest in our own development and our future. Lack of money or time tend to be two biggest obstacles for many individuals. I faced very similar challenges throughout my life. Some other reasons why many of us stop trying to reach our dreams are: lack of needed resources or tools, fear of failure, fear of taking risks. These are not all of the reasons that sometimes stop us from moving forward, you may be facing some other reason that is specific to you or your situation. I had same fears and obstacles that I had faced previously and still continue to face today. However, neither one of these challenges worth giving up on your passion in life and stop trying, therefore, I did not stop or gave up on my passion. You and only you are capable in changing the direction of your life and designing your new future. Don’t let you fears or obstacles dictate your actions. Your mind will do everything it can to protect you from various dangers and risks, that is its purpose. That is why you should look at each situation from big picture perspective, taking into account all of the calculated risks, before taking action towards your goal. If you stop and give up on your passion, it becomes a habit, habit that is difficult to break. Keep in mind I did not say impossible, because, anything is possible if you really, really, want it. If you want a better life, make more money, do what you truly love, then you have to change what you are doing today. By changing I do not mean quitting your job or take another major step which may impact your life negatively. In many cases you can still have a full time job, which provides you with security that you need to start your own business part-time, and begin you journey towards the life that you want. You do, however, would need to change how you think, how you respond to challenges that you face every day, how much time and energy you invest in your own development. It will be difficult at first, especially if you have difficulty in finding any spare time now, but it should get easier with time and practice. There are many automation tools available online to help you run your business while working full time. One of my favorite automation tools that I use is Buffer (buffer.com). It helps me organize my social media posts by day and time when I want for posting to go live throughout the week, and does so automatically once it is properly set up. This tool alone saves me a lot of my time, which I can use to write and spend with my kids. If you are interested in tools that I use to run my online business and ways I organize my week, send me a note to AskAlex@heartandmindofaleader.com and I will share my weekly organization plan with you.
