Life is unpredictable, but you are the one in control

Picture
Many if not all of us strive for a better life for ourselves and these around us – our family and close friends. But whenever we get to the top many people forgot who they really are and where they came from. Why? Because, association to a different, less than exceptional lifestyle becomes unacceptable, at least that is what it seems like to me when observing individuals who have achieved great success and wealth in life. Of course, I am going to caveat this statement by saying that not every person who finds great success tries to distance themselves from their past, from who they really are. Why is that? Typically, this is because it is not popular to expose your true self, your challenging past, that may be much different from those in the new and successful circle of friends. All of the sudden your old, less successful friends become forgotten, even though they were the ones who supported you and encouraged you to work harder, seek opportunities, overcome challenges, and not giving up when their support was desperately needed. What happen now? You are still the same person on the inside, but with more expensive outer image you wish to present to everyone one around. Here’s the sad part in all of this, life is very unpredictable, and you never know what tomorrow holds. Today, one may be extremely successful and wealthy, then unexpected changes take place in one’s life, changes in business, career, economy, etc. and all that wealth and success evaporate into nowhere. Then one begins to look around in search for support among old friends, but that support is no longer there as result of one’s actions. At the same time new friends also disappear, because, they no longer want to associate with someone who is unsuccessful or has necessary financial resources to maintain prestigious and luxurious lifestyle. So, you are back to where you once were, but now the support you once had is no longer there.

Now, look at this situation from a different perspective. If you find yourself in a situation where things are not going as expected in your life, you are broke, all of you once friends abandoned you, you don’t see an immediate opportunity to reverse the situation where you are now, struggling to make a living every day. What many people do in this situation is to focus on the negative and everything that is wrong in their life, thereby, attracting more of the same. How can one expect for their situation to improve with such thinking and negative mindset? Here’s what important to remember when you found yourself in such situation – remind yourself who you are, the strong person that you are. Remind yourself about all of the challenges you had to overcome in the past and how you managed to find your way out of difficult situations with strength, determination, and extreme desire to succeed. You’ve done it before. Yes, perhaps last time your specific situation or challenge was different, however, it was you who had to claw your way out of it and find success in what initially seemed as impossible. That is what many people forget when they are faced with challenges or after suffering a defeat in their personal and professional lives. They forget and, therefore, need to remind themselves that they are strong, and capable of achieving success regardless where they may find themselves today or regardless how difficult their present situation may be or appear to be. Many people were able to achieve great success and wealth after finding themselves at the very bottom, and it wasn’t because someone came and rescue them, it was them finally realizing that the only person capable of changing/improving your life and your situation is you.

The point in two, what initially seem as completely different situations, is the importance of remembering who you really are, no matter the situation, lifestyle, or the amount of success you had achieved. It’s also very important to remember where you came from and who was there fore you when you needed support and guidance. As mentioned earlier, life is very unpredictable and today you may be standing on top of the pedestal, swimming in wealth and success, and tomorrow you may be at the bottom of that same pedestal, looking for help and a way to make a living. Lastly, remember that you have what it takes to create change in your life no matter how challenging your situation may be. Believe in yourself, have confidence and strength to keep going by reminding yourself that you can and will be successful every day, and opportunities to make a difference in your life will present themselves when time is right.

I hope you enjoyed reading this module as much as I enjoyed writing it, and hope that you found it to be very useful for you or someone else that you may know. Please feel free to share this post if you know someone who may benefit from reading it same way you did
