Personal commitment is the first step where every leader needs to start, before sharing their expectations with others and expecting them to be instantly committed to meeting and exceeding those expectations. We, as leaders, need to show and live up to the commitments that we've made to ourselves, giving the accurate perception to others, and bring others along on the journey to success. Once people see that you are following through on your commitments, holding on to the promises that you've made, they will be inspired to follow you and will begin to create their individual commitments in business and in life. It is important to lead by example and live by what you teach. When people trust you and see you as someone who is committed to your personal and business goals, they will work harder everyday to help you and the rest of the team to meet and exceed established goals and expectations. Perception management is another critical element when it comes to displaying commitment. To most people perception is reality, therefore, if they are receiving incorrect perception of you, based on something that you might have said or done, then at that point that becomes their reality of you. If someone's perception is that you do not follow through on your promises than they may see you as someone who is not committed to your personal and business goals. One way that you can uncover and address incorrect perception is through feedback. Asking for feedback will give you as a leader an opportunity to address any issues or concerns that others may have, and will help to continue growing yourself as a leader by addressing any opportunity areas that you may have.
