Begin building the future that you want today

Picture
Since we are now at the beginning of a new school year in the U.S., whether you are starting in the first grade or your senior year in college, this is the time when new expectations are set, new goals are created, and new futures are formed.

If you are the one who spent most if not all of your summer months on something other than preparing for a new school year reading books, going through and reviewing schools materials from previous year, looking for opportunities to expand your knowledge in various subjects, then you would most likely find yourself not ready or unprepared as new school year begins and would spend first few weeks or even months catching up. Is that the position that you wanted to be in? I am sure the answer is “no.” However, it should not come to you as a surprise that those that prepare and spend their time on activities that help to increase the amount of information that was acquired through school education and/or self-education by investing your free time in activities that contribute to your own personal development and growth, such as: reading, writing, learning new information, creating, designing, etc., tend to be much more prepared for what’s waiting for them in the future, whether it’s in school or outside of the classroom. Why is that? Because, individuals who take time to prepare, learn and use every opportunity available to invest their time and energy into their personal development, they typically have a very clear vision and understanding of exactly what they want and expect to achieve in life now and in the future. They know and understand the importance of preparation and hard work, and instead of wasting their time on unproductive activities such as playing video games or watching tv, typically watching shows that have zero educational value, they spend that time working towards their lifetime goals and dreams.

Now, don’t get me wrong, it is still very important to spend some time doing fun things that a person may enjoy doing, such as playing sports, playing outside with friends, even playing video games, however, there’s a big difference between spending all your free time on these activities vs. dedicating specific periods of time throughout the day on such activities. What’s also important to note is that if playing sports is your passion in life and that is what you strive to do as your career in life – being a professional athlete, then you should ask yourself – Am I doing everything that I can today to help me get closer to my goal? So, in your free time are you learning more about activity or subject you are passionate about, expanding your knowledge in a particular area of interest as well as practicing it on the regular basis, or are you just saying that you do because that is what everyone wants and expects to hear from you?

Everybody an say that they want to be successful in life, acquire great amount of wealth, travel the world anytime they choose, driving luxurious cars, and living in a place they’ve always dreamed about, but then the question is: “What are you doing about it? What steps are you taking every day to help you get closer and eventually achieving the future that you truly want?” I am sure that the answer to these very important questions is not – “I will start tomorrow or next week” or “I don’t have time today.” Because, the answer to these questions looks something like this: “I am taking the following steps x, y, and z, every day and use every opportunity I get to help me to get closer to reaching my plans, goals, and dreams.” Is your answer looks like the one I just listed?

Remember, time does not stop just because you are not ready to take action, it keeps moving forward. Therefore, you have a choice every day to either use the time that you have and invest it into the activities that help you to grow personally and professionally, or in the activities that are holding you back from creating the future that you say you want.
