Nothing worth of achieving ever comes easy Whether you are just starting your professional career in a corporate world, or if you have several years of experience working in a corporate structure just know that whatever your current title or position may be, it does not set a limit on your professional growth, ambition, and what you can bring to the table at the end of the day Career Growth and Personal Development Obstacles I know you may say that because of your current title or role your reach is somewhat limited or that you do not have necessary tools and resources that can only be obtained at a certain level along the corporate ladder. However, even though you may not have all tools and resources immediately available to you right this minute, what you do have is your drive, determination, persistence, and desire to improve, both personally and professionally, growing yourself every day one lesson and one experience at a time, until success you are seeking is within your reach, and no, it does not have to take 10+ years to reach it. Sounds easer than done? I know that this sounds easier than done, and it’s true, nothing worth achieving comes easy and requires personal commitment and extreme desire to reach that one thing you are seeking – higher or better position within a company, better lifestyle, etc. I know people who have started their corporate journeys at the very beginning of that high and long corporate ladder, and have achieved great success in their professional careers in few short years, sometimes even months. It’s been proven time and time again that it can be done, regardless where you may have started or where along the journey you may be today. So, what skills that one must have, and how should those skills be used to move to the next step in your professional career journey? 1. I had mentioned extreme persistence earlier as one of the required skills that one must have to keep moving forward. Why is persistence very important? Because, persistence is like a fuel in a car, it’s what allows you to keep going, driving forward every day. We face various challenges daily at work and at home and some of those challenges or roadblocks can be very difficult to overcome if you do not have the fuel that helps you to focus on the goal or end-result you want to achieve, that is where extreme persistence and desire to win comes into play. There have been many times in my life where from initial assessment and perception situation or opportunities seemed unrealistic and way out of my reach. However, because of my natural strong persistent character, I was able to find ways and detours to keep moving forward towards that what I wanted despite what everyone was saying or thinking, and despite initial barriers, or at least that’s what they seemed to be originally. So, without strong persistence it would be very difficult to overcome obstacles, challenges, and internal limiting thoughts encountered in life and your professional careers. If it wasn’t for my persistence, I still wouldn’t speak English, finish school and achieve success, based on my personal interpretation of success, in my professional career. 2. Energy. Why is energy important, and how can it relate to your personal and professional growth? Well, high levels of personal energy lead to high levels of performance and results. Low energy, well, you get the point. You need high inner energy to perform at your maximum capacity, and that is where great things happen. You energize yourself to perform, and you energize those around you to perform and help you reaching your business goals. Nobody, wants to be around someone who is constantly complaining about how tired they are or how difficult something may be, because, it drains your energy, points your mind in the wrong direction. So, keep your personal energy high at all times, energize others, and keep moving forward. Remember, everything in life is energy. So, if you want higher levels of success or for better opportunities to present themselves, you need to put out and maintain high levels of personal inner energy. 3. Strong belief in yourself and your own abilities. Why is this important? If you don’t believe that you can accomplish something, you are right, you can’t and nothing or no one would be able to help you to change that. However, if you believe in yourself and know that you can and will achieve that what you set your mind on, you can and will achieve it. Now, don’t get discouraged if something does not happen immediately or as quickly as you would have liked. Just know that if you believe that it can be achieved and that you can get there, then you will eventually get there. Remember, no one except you know exactly what you are capable of. So, if someone tells you that you can’t achieve something because of x, y, or z, go ahead and prove them wrong by becoming ridiculously successful at whatever they said you cannot do. 4. Desire and willingness to learn. Listen, you can’t be successful in whatever you are doing unless you are willing to put in time and effort in learning about whatever it may be. So, if you are starting a new entry level job with a goal of reaching the top of the corporate ladder or eventually starting your own business, you must, and I repeat, you must become the subject matter expert in whatever you are doing, and not just in your immediate role or position with specific title assigned to it, but well outside of your immediate role, and in the positions two or three levels above you. It does not matter where you are now, what matters is where you want to go. So, if you want to move from beginner entry level role into a higher level executive position within the company, then you must think and act as if you are in that role already. Some come into a role thinking that all I need to do is just do my job and focus on my immediate responsibilities that were outlined in the job description or explained during initial new hire training, and I will achieve the position and lifestyle I am seeking. However, it does not work that way. By following and just doing bare minimum results. You’ve got to think big picture, always look for opportunities to learn, expand your knowledge, experience, skill set, and think from a position that you have in mind, not from the position where you are now. What that means is seeking and accepting new and more challenging opportunities, take on complex and challenging projects, and always look for ways to help to move your company forward. It’s ok that you may not know how to do everything that a particular task or project requires, say yes, and then learn, ask questions, and learn again. This is how you grow personally, professionally, and in your existing role, while setting yourself up for success and future that is just around the corner. Are you ready to take your career to the next level? If so, what you waiting for? Go and get it. You know you can and will. See you at the top.
